Already eight years ago, "Somewhere Far Beyond" had been my very first contact with BLIND GUARDIAN. At first the great cover had caught my attention and led me to checking out the CD. After that there were no holds barred anymore...
After a short Spanish guitar-intro "Time What Is Time" comes crashing through with its thrashy guitars, just to unfold as an epic Melodic/Speed-grenade with a grand chorus, followed by the equally great "Journey Through The Dark". It really didn't need much more to put me under its spell.
You can take any track, "The Quest For Tanelorn", where GAMMA RAY-mastermind Kai Hansen is adding his share, the heavy "Ashes To Ashes", the two "The Bard's Song"s or the very epic title-track, including a bagpipe-intermezzo - each one of them all-time-classics!
And if that alone had not been enough, there also are three bonus-tracks to be found, back then still titled as CD-bonus... Besides a classic version of "Theatre Of Pain", that hasn't really worked out, two cover-version could be found: "Spread Your Wings" by QUEEN and "Trial By Fire" by SATAN, both expertly covered, just like almost all versions made by BLIND GUARDIAN.
So, "Somewhere Far Beyond" is a classic and remains a classic of German Heavy Metal, heavy, fast, melodic and epic, just as it should be!
