The English subs were made by tubesoda, based on an English translation of Kafka's short story. The Japanese dialogue in this short is translated from Kafka's original text; it's a very faithful adaptation. So making English subs from an existing English translation of the text was quite feasible. The Chinese subs are fansubs from http://popgo.net/bbs and they were the basis of timing for the English subs.
