My new employer recently bought SAS BI Server 'we had just replaced Business
Objects with SAS not long before I started' for our pricing unit. I am a
quanititive MBA with a strong history in Excel + VBA scripting. I have to admit
I was struggling quite a bit with learning SAS 'and weaning myself off of
Excel', so I picked up this book last month 'I wanted to avoid learning another
programming language, so this book was nice.' Ripped through this book quickly
and found sufficient examples to help me understand the workflow of EG and the
Addin. I also liked the overview of SAS analytics, gave me some things to
consider. This book also covers my favorite new addition for my Excel addiction,
the SAS Addin for Office. Also, it looks like OLAP should be our next addition
to the mix since we own it already. My main complaint about this book is that I
had to figure out where the sample data was located on our server. It wasn't
there but on the EG disk, so we had to move it to the server, a bit of a pain.
Once I had this figured out, the examples were straight-forward but informative,
especially the query sections. I have already lent the book to a friend in
another group who has started playing with SAS for their forecasting project.
