Age of Empires is an epic real-time strategy game spanning 10,000
years, in which players are the guiding spirit in the evolution of
small stone age tribes. Starting with minimal resources, players are
challenged to build their tribes into great civilizations. Gamers can
choose from one of several ways to win the game, including: world
domination by conquering enemy civilizations, exploration of the known
world and economic victory through the accumulation of wealth. Age of
Empires was developed by Ensemble Studios and features the expertise
of Bruce Shelley, co-designer of the hit strategy game Civilization.

It's not only a different game each time you play. It's a different
game, period. Beautiful graphics, twelve civilizations, a
comprehensive technology tree, dozens of units, randomly generated
maps, and a rich soundtrack, add up to a more complete gaming
experience.
Age of Empires sets you within an historical context, not in a purely
fictional world. But of course, if you would rather diverge from the
beaten path, Age of Empires includes a built-in scenario editor so you
can create your own conflicts and scenarios.
Age of Empires also brings you the expanse of the unknown. You have
room to roam -- the maps are large, plenty of room for you, and up to
eight other players, to play in a multiplayer forum.
MULTI-TRIBE PLAY:
As the Guiding Spirit of your civilization, you can conquer or
cooperate with existing tribes in a multiplayer environment -- via the
Internet (http://www.zone.com/asp/default.asp), LAN or modem-to-modem.
REAL-TIME:
Your decisions count: think fast, act bravely. You will see the
real-time results of your resource management decisions. Consider your
options and move forward; assign civilization members to hunt,
explore, conquer, or build. Know your place; not all civilizations
will excel at the same skills -- if you are from the desert, you
might not be an expert on ships and marine warfare. As you move
through time you will be able to apply new technology to advance the
state of buildings, weapons, tools, and ships. Of course, detailed
graphics and CD-quality sound will enhance and enrich your world
domination experience.
HISTORY RICHNESS:
Age of Empires presents you with an opportunity to shape history. As
you immerse yourself in Age of Empires, you sink into an historically
accurate world of eat or be eaten. You'll get to see how good your
survival, resource management and commanding skills really are as you
take part in the rise of civilizations in the Age of Empires.
You begin by choosing from among 12 real ancient civilizations, and
your choice of civilization is tied to the type of technology which
will become available to you. The architecture you build, the armies
you amass, will all reflect your culture. As in world history, the
differences between the tribes and their technologies become more
apparent at key moments in history (such as the dawning of the Bronze
Age).
Age of Empires also includes a 40,000 word encyclopedia that provides
historical notes on Age of Empires. The encyclopedia discusses the
different cultures available for play, the game technologies, the rise
of civilization, and the rise of ancient warfare. Age of Empires isn't
exactly like the real world though. In the real world leaders didn't
have the option to limit or expand how they would rise to power. And
they probably didn't have as much fun as you will with Age of Empires.
Thats what it's all about after all isn't it? Having fun!
This is one of the most anticipated games since the original
Civilization from Sid himself. AOE was voted THE #1 Real time
Strategy at E3 by Gameslice, Gamepen, PC Gamer, CGW, Computer Games
Strategy Plus....you get the picture. So put away that girlie
Commander and saddle up an elephant and send a spear soaring through
the brass helmet of a peasant..hoo rah!
Installation Guide & Notes

Total installed size of this release is 72M.
Only the movies were removed from the game; everything else is there.
As always...our install directions are simple:
unZIP the game to a temp dir, make a dir to hold the game in (eg:
C:\games\AOE), then unRAR the game using this command:
unrar x -v -y ageofemp.001 c:\games\AOE
NOTE: This game does contain long filenames, so make SURE that you
use the UNRAR.EXE provided to decompress the game, or use WinRAR if
you are a GUI freak. =)
After the game has been decompressed, run the SETUP.EXE in your AOE
directory to configure your registry settings. Then, just run
EMPIRES.EXE to play the game, and enjoy this kick ass title from the
REAL DEAL HOLYFIELD of the scene, RAZOR 1911!
