Description:
High Quality TV rip includes commercials.
"Super Scary Saturday was a 1987-1989 matinee syndicated on TBS, and who better to host a Saturday afternoon horror movie on Ted Turner's flagship station than a star of one of its most beloved reruns, The Munsters? Al Lewis dons his cape once again as Grampa Munster to host an assortment of great old movies from his classic basement laboratory, providing some insightful commentary and the obligatory cheesy puns as he "digs up" a movie every weekend while chastising and swatting at his servant Igor (played by a rubber bat on a string).
Unfortunately, this is the only Super Scary Saturday feature I have so far, but the main feature is among the best possible films to be featured on any horror host show... simply because many horror host shows (including MST3K) owe much of their success to the genre of Japanese giant monsters. Godzilla, King of the Monsters, the 1956 American release of the 1954 Toho classic Gojira, stars Raymond Burr as American journalist Steve Martin, a man in search of a story that gives gigantic new meaning to the phrase, "This was no boating accident!" Despite new footage, Burr's voiceovers, and what many fans of Japanese film consider a butchering of the original film, Godzilla, King of the Monsters gave birth to US affection for Japanese monsters. Now you can enjoy those nostalgic feelings again right here while Grampa Munster cracks you up with his bad jokes and offers his own opinions on how great these old movies were. Even better, all of the commercials that aired during this broadcast are intact!
This feature was ripped from a homebrew VHS-DVD transfer and is offered in multi-compatible xvid format. It should work with any media player as well as on divx-supported DVD players."
