Description:
Genre: Drama
You can't choose family...
BLACK IRISH, a contemporary Irish-American family drama set in South Boston, starring Brendan Gleeson ("Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," "Troy," "28 Days Later") and Michael Angarano ("Sky High," "Lords of Dogtown"). Brad Gann, who wrote the screenplay for the film "Invincible" starring Mark Wahlberg and Greg Kinnear, makes his directorial debut with the film which won the Audience and Grand Jury Awards at the Florida Film Festival and feature film awards from Method Fest and the Newport Beach Film Festival. Anywhere Road will release the film in Los Angeles and Boston on October 26.
The film also stars Melissa Leo ("Stephanie Daley," "21 Grams," "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada"), Tom Guiry ("Mystic River," "Tigerland," NBC's "The Black Donnellys"), and Emily VanCamp (ABC's "Brothers & Sisters," The WB's "Everwood").
Fifteen-year-old Cole (Angarano) is a sweet-natured, baseball-loving, obedient teenager who yearns for the attentions of his emotionally remote father (Gleeson). Cole is by turns nurtured and abandoned by the rest of his family: his pregnant unmarried sister (VanCamp), a troubled bully for a brother (Guiry) and his deeply religious mother (Leo) who has been grooming Cole, her youngest son, for a life in the priesthood. As the story unfolds, each family member undergoes a crisis of his or her own, until circumstances force Cole to take action to prevent a family tragedy.
